Is there a Chinese temple in Muara? Can remember there is one there. I used to stay in Muara from 1984~1997. Currently based in KL.

Yes there is.. they moved the temple from the old spot to the new spot nearly or over 10 years ago...

You work in Muara before or are you originally from Muara but is working in KL now?

Thanks Phoenix. No wonder, I can't remember seeing that temple you have posted. I believe it was constructed after I left Brunei. Was the old temple (a very small one)located behind the Muara pasar?

Oh, I'm not from Brunei but Brunei is always in my heart as I have stayed/worked there for 15 years. In fact my 3 children were born there. My residence and workplace used to be in Muara/Serasa area.

Really looking forward to your photos on Muara Town. Wow, I really miss the ambience of Muara Town; where everyone knows each other! Everyone is so friendly there.

Cheers

hi bz...

Muara Town changed a lot, there used to be some potential for it to grow into a bigger town but either it was bad planning or what, god knows... heheh...

The Chinese temple was actually behind the Indian restaurant, not the pasar/tamu.... The authorities demolish it thinking that the port authorities would take over the land it occupies, but never... until now.

Now that place is overgrown with plants and nothing is really being done..

There were stories about the temple deities where the elderly said that because it "protected" Muara, make it prosperous and "helped" a lot of people, some people got jealous and stole one or two of the deities from the Temple and place it in their Temple across the sea! (have you heard of the story?). I'm not sure how true is the story, but its an interesting tale.

I remember playing with some of the Chinese kids back in the late 70s and early 80s. How do I get a hold of those boys. They are probably the same age as me ......should be around mid 40s. I remember we use to play almost fireworks during Chinese New Year. The people in the kampong Ayer use to fight with the people on land. We also play kites. Those were the days.☺️☺️☺️
