Malaysian Election - A view from "Penyibuk" (bz body lah tu)

I used to admire the Regent of Perak, Raja Nazri Shah because of his modern view of government and governance issues. However, when, the opposition party won the majority of the Perak state seats (http://www.nst.com.my/Election08) in the recent election, 31 Vs UMNO’s 28, he choosed the Menteri Besar from the party which won the LEAST seats in the State Election. No doubt this small party (PAS) is the king maker, i.e., 2 of the members could defect to UMNO, giving UMNO 30 seats hence a majority to form a government, however, logically one would think that DAP should have the right to be upset. Then came the statement, that the people in Perak must remember that Perak is a “Malay” land…. So much for a progressive, modern and fair Prince….

Anyway, I was impressed with Sultan of Selangor’s support and understanding of different races in his state though no deputy Menteri Besar from the minority was chosen. Nevertheless, I began to admire him because of obvious his respect for other races. I remembered that he was the one who started to reduce the number of datoship (knighthood) in Malaysia as he realized that there were too many datoship was given out annually, some bought, some through cronyism via the Menteri Besar’s suggestion and some with dubious record. Those who are convicted of criminal offense would be strip of his/her datoship... Maybe we should have that kind of system in Brunei... there are too many dato who berlagak too much... mengambang lagi... sekali kena sue bankrupt, habis ilang title... padan mua

Then came the impasse from Trengganu. After two weeks of state election, Terengganu still has no Menteri Besar because the person chosen by Abdullah Badawi was rejected by the Malaysian King, who is also the Sultan of Trengganu. It’s about time that royalty ask the Menteri Besar to be transparent and not be corrupt during their tenure, as exemplified by the former Kedah Menteri Besar, who was also rejected by the Sultan of Kedah? Terlampau banyak business yang dubious... check this site why the Sultan of Terengganu IS angry with former Menteri Besar, Datuk Idris.. http://www.malaysia-today.net/2008/content/view/4974/84/

If there’s nothing to hide, then why all state documents were missing from the Menteri Besar office when a new one was appointed? More excitement to be seen in Penang as the new Chief Minister will surely reveal any embarrassing politically motivated projects which enrich some section of the society…

No party hopping in the future? Well, Dr. Mahathir wouldn't like that, he was the one who perfected the art of party hopping ... otherwise, in the 1990s, Sabah wouldnt have fallen to the hands of the BN team... The opposition party of course, would love to have this law pass in Parliament, its the BN group which has to be careful.

Perak MB assures Islam, Malays, royalty remain supreme
By : Jaspal Singh

Perak Menteri Besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin has assured the state Malays that the tripartite government of Pas, Keadilan and DAP will respect and protect the community's fundamental beliefs pertaining to Islam, Malay supremacy and the royal institution.

Speaking to a crowd of more than 500 village heads, penghulus and district and local council officers here yesterday, the newly-appointed menteri besar urged them to discard any aversion they may have against the new state government just because the majority of seats were held by the DAP.

"The DAP representatives respect and accept the Malay supremacy, the institution of royalty and the status of Islam which are provided inside the constitution of the state. The establishment of the new (tripartite) state government shows that the 18 DAP state assemblymen have agreed to accept these important beliefs," he said, adding that otherwise there would not have been a government of Pas, Keadilan and DAP.

He was responding to queries from village heads, largely Umno members, who expressed their worry that the Malay-Muslim rights in the state would be compromised.

Nizar, who is also state Pas secretary, said the Malay community should not feel discomfort with the large DAP presence within the proposed Exco council line-up where the DAP will take six positions while Keadilan and Pas have three and one positions respectively.
"The DAP representatives are educated people. They are lawyers, most of them... they know the Perak Constitution well. Furthermore, no one should be worried because the three parties have agreed that all decisions will be made based on consensus."

Speaking to reporters later, Nizar clarified that although there was no express mention of Malay supremacy within the state constitution, the DAP representatives, by agreeing to form the tripartite government, as consented to by the royalty, had accepted the importance of these fundamental beliefs.

"As far as the 18 (DAP assemblymen) are concerned, the fact that all of them are agreeable with the (tripartite) arrangement indicates that there actually is an agreement between all the parties (to adhere to the Perak Constitution). I think that should be very clear," he said.

Nizar urged everyone to give the new state government some space and time to enable it to carry out its proposed agendas.

'Ong and Karpal should apologise to the Tengku Mahkota'

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan People's Action Council (MTRK) said statements by certain parties that the speech by the Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan in Kuala Lumpur last week would destroy the unity and harmony among the various races, were extreme and an insult to the royal institution.
Council chairman Datuk Ibrahim Ali said those involved should apologise and called on the police to take take action against them under the Sedition Act, especially MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting and DAP chairman Karpal Singh.

Ibrahim, who is also Pasir Mas MP, said the council supported the comments by the Tengku Mahkota when he opened a seminar on Malay unity at the Putra World Trade Centre last Saturday.

"MTRK appreciates the concern shown by him and for the Malays to unite irrespective of their political affiliations.

"What was voiced by him was a wake-up call for the Malays and should be received open heartedly," he said after a MTRK council meeting here yesterday.
The Tengku Makhota said the special rights and privileges of Malays were not to be questioned and that it was inappropriate for other races to demand equal privileges just because they had Malaysian citizenship.

Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra said the Malays were given the special rights and privileges in exchange for granting citizenship to 2.7 million people of other races.

Karpal had criticised the Tengku Mahkota for making political statements that were "on the verge of sedition".

"The Tengku Mahkota should have known better than to issue statements with a political flavour," said Karpal.

"Royalty in the country must stay apolitical. Conventionally, royalty is required to do so," he said, adding that "the tone of the statements of the Tengku Mahkota was an affront to the other races in the country".

Ong said the Tengku Mahkota was wrong in saying that it is inappropriate for non-Malays to seek equal rights.

He said the various races had worked hard to attain the goals of nation-building for the past 50 years, for which they also contributed to the country's development.

As such, they too had equal rights as enshrined in the constitution, he said.

Ibrahim said the Tengku Mahkota's speech was not only about the Malays but also on the importance of the Malaysian people.

Hmm.. I think this Ibrahim Ali is one st**d guy... Did he think he would get alot of support by using this kind of comment?

I wonder how educated is the Kelantan prince to make such a racist statement...

Report police? As noted earlier when the Trengganu supporter of the former menteri besar, the Malay protesters even dare to insult the Malaysian King by using the word "Natang" and yet no action was taken against them... now, when the Kelantan prince is the one at fault, st***Ibrahim Ali want people to notice him... moron
