Chung Hwa "Middle" School

Chung Hwa School, Bandar Seri Begawan, celebrated its 80th year anniversary (1923-2002) about 4 years ago. However, according to the anniversary book published in conjunction of the 80th year anniversary, the school was initially name York Choi School, opened in 1918 with just about 20 pupils.

The main aim of the establishment of the school was to educate the young children of the chinese shopkeepers who moved to the land (Brunei Town), from Kampong Ayer, several years before. History recorded that Kapitan China Ong Boon Pang (father of Dato Ong Kim Kee and grandfather of Timothy Ong?) was one of the main towkays who helped established the school...
